Sapsorrow Leung

Sapsorrow Leung is a Perfumer at CPL Aromas Hong Kong and has been part of the company for over 25 years. She joined CPL in 1999 in the Quality Control department, where she was responsible for monitoring the quality of raw materials and fragrances. After three years, she took on a new challenge as a GCMS analyst, developing strong analytical skills that opened the door to fragrance creation.​

During her eight years working with GCMS analysis, Sapsorrow gained extensive knowledge of raw materials, bases, and fragrances across multiple categories. This experience deepened her curiosity about how fragrances work and inspired her to move into perfumery. She particularly enjoys the moment in creation when a unique ingredient transforms a composition, adding what she describes as a touch of magic.​

Sapsorrow specialises in the personal care category, working on formats such as soap, shampoo, and body cream. She is drawn to these applications because of their close connection to everyday life and the way fragrance becomes part of people’s daily routines. Her favourite ingredients include fruit notes such as coconut, pineapple, and berries, valued for their natural appeal and versatility in composition.​

Outside of the lab, Sapsorrow enjoys hiking, scuba diving, travelling, and reading. These experiences help her stay open-minded and inspire fresh perspectives in her creative work. She believes the future of fragrance lies in a balance between natural-smelling compositions and innovation through green chemistry, biodegradability, and responsibly sourced materials.
