Franky Fung

Franky Fung is a Senior Perfumer at CPL Aromas Far East, based in Hong Kong. He joined CPL Aromas in 1995 and has been working as a perfumer ever since, specialising in the personal care and fabric care categories. With a strong interest in science, Franky studied Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry at university. His introduction to the fragrance industry came unexpectedly during an interview at a fragrance house in Hong Kong, which led to an opportunity to train as a perfumer. 

After joining CPL Aromas, Franky became the first trainee perfumer in the Far East region, receiving intensive and ongoing training from senior perfumers in the UK. This experience helped him build a solid technical foundation, particularly in GCMS matching and the creation of fragrances for general toiletries and everyday consumer products. Over the years, he has developed a practical, application-focused approach, creating fragrances that are both effective and relevant to daily life. 

Franky enjoys every stage of the creative process and sees each successful fragrance as a form of recognition. He has a particular appreciation for Iso E Super, a versatile velvet woody note valued for its performance, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility across applications. His creative inspiration often comes during moments of relaxation, such as after sports, listening to music, or spending time with a coffee.

Outside of perfumery, Franky has a long-standing interest in the arts, including drawing, silk screen printing, pottery, and traditional Chinese practices such as lion dancing and kung fu. He believes the future of fragrance lies in a more positive, sustainable, and health-conscious direction, and values remaining open-minded and passionate in an ever-evolving industry.
