Harold Chan

Harold Chan is a Perfumer at CPL Aromas Hong Kong, specialising in air care fragrances. His journey into perfumery began after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from The University of Hong Kong, followed by a Diploma in Perfumery from IFEAT, Plymouth. Harold joined CPL in 1998 as a Junior Chemist and, after on-the-job perfumer training, progressed from Trainee Perfumer to his current role.​

Harold’s creative approach combines science and perfumery, focusing on high-quality, efficient fragrances that work across different products and delivery systems. He has particular expertise in air care categories such as reed diffusers, candles, and fragrance mists, developing signature scents that transform spaces and evoke the character of different cultures and environments. His work also includes contributions to CPL’s EcoBoost, AromaGuard, and InsectaGuard technologies, as well as the use of specialty materials such as AromaFusion and AromaSpace. ​

For Harold, fragrance is about creating atmosphere and experience. He believes that a well-crafted scent can transport people, evoke memories, and enhance everyday life. Beyond the lab, he finds inspiration in running, hiking, and travel, drawing on these experiences to enrich his understanding of different cultures, landscapes, and sensory impressions, which in turn informs his fragrance creations.​
